Sustainability & Community Impact

A Regenerative Approach to Luxury Travel

At Larantuka Lamaholot Voyages, we believe that true luxury is inseparable from responsibility. Our mission is not only to provide extraordinary travel experiences but to ensure that our presence is a positive, regenerative force for the culture, community, and environment of Larantuka and Eastern Flores. This commitment is a core value of our parent, Juara Holding Group, and is woven into every aspect of our operations, from itinerary design to supply chain management. It is a promise to preserve the pristine beauty you come to see.

Environmental Commitments: Preserving a Pristine Paradise

  • Marine Conservation Partnership: We dedicate a percentage of our annual profits to support the marine conservation programs of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia in the Savu Sea. This funding aids in protecting critical coral reef ecosystems, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and safeguarding the migration routes of cetaceans.
  • Zero Single-Use Plastic Policy: All our tours, vessels, and ground operations are strictly free of single-use plastics. We provide guests with reusable water bottles and utilize locally sourced, biodegradable materials for all our provisions.
  • Carbon Offsetting Program: We partner with Jejak.in, a certified Indonesian carbon offset provider, to calculate the carbon footprint of each guest’s journey, including flights and sea travel. We then invest in verified carbon sequestration projects, such as mangrove reforestation in other parts of Indonesia, to render each trip carbon-neutral.
  • Reef-Safe Practices: We enforce strict marine protocols on all our snorkeling and diving excursions. This includes providing guests with reef-safe sunscreen, maintaining a no-touch/no-take policy for all marine life, and ensuring our boat captains use designated mooring buoys to prevent anchor damage to coral reefs.

Community Empowerment: Investing in People

  • Hyper-Local Employment: We are committed to a ‘Flores First’ hiring policy. Over 80% of our on-the-ground team—from guides and drivers to boat crew and guest relations staff—are hired from Larantuka and the surrounding villages of Flores Timur. We invest in their training and professional development to international standards.
  • Support for Local Enterprises: We build our supply chain around local businesses. Provisions for our voyages are sourced from the Larantuka central market, we partner with family-owned restaurants for culinary experiences, and we facilitate direct, fair-trade purchases from local artisans.
  • The Juara Community Fund: A portion of every booking is allocated to our community fund, which invests in projects identified by our partner villages. Current initiatives include providing educational materials for schools in the Solor archipelago and supporting healthcare access in remote coastal communities.

Cultural Preservation: Honoring Sacred Traditions

  • Direct Support for Artisans: We provide market access for traditional weavers of the famed tenun ikat textiles. We facilitate visits to weaving villages like Lamalera, ensuring the artisans receive 100% of the proceeds from their sales, thereby sustaining this vital cultural heritage.
  • Respectful Cultural Immersion: We work directly with cultural elders (tokoh adat) and the Diocese of Larantuka to ensure our guests’ presence, especially during the sacred Semana Santa festival, is respectful, unobtrusive, and sanctioned by the community. All guests receive a comprehensive cultural briefing before participating in any local ceremony or village visit.

When you travel with us, you become a partner in our mission to protect and uplift this extraordinary corner of the world. Explore our journeys on the Larantuka Flores page.
